If you ever run into this “Plugin does not have a valid header” error when installing a wordpress plugin, here is a very simple solution that tends to work most of the time.

Find the plugin in question.

Lets imagine you just bought EZ Empire Builder and are ready to install it on your WordPress site. Lets also assume you just updated to WordPress version 2.9.1 from 2.8.

The first thing to do is to go to your wp-admin panel and click,

‘Plugins > Editor’

Next, see the drop down menu near the top right side of your ‘Edit Plugins’ console. Open the drop down menu and find ‘EZ Empire Builder’ and select it by hitting the ‘Select’ button.

On the right side of the text box you will see several files that make up the EZ Empire Builder plugin. One of those files will be,

‘ezempirebuilder/readme.txt’

Click that link and you will see the contents of that readme.txt file appear on the main text editor.

Inside this file you will see where it says,

‘Tested up to: 2.8.4′ or something similar. This number may vary but the important thing is that it shows at least as high as the current version of WordPress that you are currently using.

To fix your “Plugin does not have a valid header” problem, simply edit this number to your current version number or higher and save your changes.

Now your headers problem should be resolved until such a date that you update your WordPress Version to a date beyond your current new setting. Updating to WordPress 3.0 for example would require this setting to be updated again.

One easy way to avoid this problem in the future is to set it quite a bit ahead. The “Plugin does not have a valid header” error serves no real value and can be easily suppressed so, might as well do it and save yourself the troubles.

WP Super Cache – Very fast caching plugin for WordPress. This could keep your cheap host from banning you if you get a traffic burst from a digg or reddit hit. I know it works because I have had tons of #1 posts on both. 50,000 visitors in a very short span will get your hosts attention if you’re not using this plugin, let me tell ya.

YOURLS WordPress to Twitter – Create short URLs for posts with YOURLS (or other services such as tr.im) and tweet them. This plugin will tweet your scraped posts and make short urls (like bit.ly) except it uses YOURLS installed on your own server. You will have to install YOURLS but it is worth it in my mind since you get the links pointing to you instead of bit.ly.

Link: http://planetozh.com/blog/yourls-wordpress-to-twitter-a-short-url-plugin/

YOURLS – An open source URL shortener that you install on your own server. This is NOT a WordPress plugin. Install this in a subfolder of your domain like “go” or something short.

Link: http://yourls.org/

Zingiri Tickets – This plugin integrates the osTicket ticketing solution with WordPress.

“I want to target about 20 prime keywords in a single blog using the Onlywire plugin to promote and build backlinks. I do NOT want to bookmark every single post I make, but I DO want to bookmark the 20 posts relating to my target keywords.

How can this be done?”

ANSWER:

See my breakdown below…

Pick your 20 keywords and create a new category for each keyword.

Setup your feeds/scrapers/tubes for each cat

Setup onlywire plugin but don’t worry about that much. Just set it up to post 10% or 20% of your posts. Don’t go overboard. Over time, they’ll each get in there. Onlywire plugin will do this randomly for you. You can’t really control it.

One other thing I sometimes do if I DO want to control it a bit more is install the Social Bookmarks plugin:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/social-bookmarks/

Then, you can maually submit any articles of any real importance to the top social sites (digg, reddit, stumble, twitter, etc).

Summary

So, to sum it up, don’t worry about controlling things too much.

Set up your auto-blogs with all the recommended plugins + any others you may personally like. Take advantage of any feature that benefits your site’s overall SEO performance.

Be sure to grab quality content, don’t just plug into eZineArticles.com database straight away and expect magic to happen.

This part will take a little work…

Instead of being lazy here, find niche blogs and forums that have great content that is very focused to your niche. EVERY niche worth marketing has at least a handful of popular blogs and forums to pull feeds from.

Setup some great feeds, get quality content and you will do awesome.

DO NOT cut corners setting up your auto blog. All you have to do is a little work now and it will pay off down the line.

So, do your level best!

Then, AFTER you’ve worked, you can sit back and relax and let the system do its magic.

Don’t Stop There!

NEXT… start building anothert blog!

One very nice thing about the WordPress Cloaker system when used with the content generation plugins is that you save SO much time, you won’t have to stop at just one site.

Its EASY to create one blog per day, per week or even one every couple of weeks. A year later and at minimum you should have 25 blogs pulling steady traffic every day.

By that time, you’ll be able to setup a killer auto-blog in under 30-minutes flat. And, not some junky, spammy blog but a solid blog with quality content that could literally get visitors to bookmark and return regularly due to valuable content.

And, you will have DONE it, almost fully auto-mated!

“You say that autoblogging will increase my sites PR due to lots of incoming links. How does WPC do this? i mean, build the incoming links? wouldn`t i have to do this manually?”

ANSWER:

Well, WordPress Cloaker currently comes with a few bonus plugins:

1. WP Tube

2. WP Feeder

3. WP Scraper

4. WP Spinner

These are all content generating plugins that help you build any number of pages targeting any number of niches or keywords.

So, here’s how it breaks down as far as link juice and PR…

1. You need inbound links

So, how do you get those?

Well, there are lots of ways, some easy and some not so easy…

The Hard Way

An example of good backlinks that are hard to get would be to manually find sites to partner with you and send each person an email asking for reciprocal link exchange, and other old school methods.

The Easier Way

But, nowadays you have lots of easier options, some automated, others more semi-automatic or work intensive.

An example would be to go to blogs and make comments and include a link back to your blog or web site. Sounds great but you still have to find sites that don’t use the no-follow attributes on their links or you get no Google love at all from a lot of work.

A couple samples of good high PR sites that don’t use no-follow would be from some .edu sites (hard to find but VERY good)

see below for a small sample of good ones:

http://www.csdhead.cs.cmu.edu/blog/2009/07/30/at-last-useful-social-networking

http://diva.sfsu.edu/blog/04-20-2009/using-content-outside-of-diva

http://www.sft.edu/blog/2009/07/15/so-much-for-type-casting/

http://blog.axehandle.org/2009/01/writing-about-black-panthers.html

http://apps.career.colostate.edu/blog/archive/2009/09/09/telluride-film-festival-inspiration.aspx#feedback

An Even EASIER WAY

But, there are better ways, more automated that don’t require much work. ONE of those would be to use some of the great WordPress SEO plugins you can find for free out there.

One I like a lot is the Onlywire plugin. You simply setup a free account with Onlywire and create your accounts with the various sites that it submits your blog posts to for you.

Note: Takes about 30-45 minutes of work but well worth it!

Once you’ve finished the account creation process, the Onlywire plugin automatically submits each post (or a percentage of your posts, so you don’t over do it) to lots of different social and web 2.0 sites.

Keep in mind that each of these are high PR sites and by submitting your posts to them, you are creating some nice, quality backlinks to your blog posts.

Here’s a full list:

Ask
Bebo
Bibsonomy
Blinklist
Connotea
FINALIZE
Delicious
Digg
FINALIZE
Diigo
Faves
Google Bookmarks
Jumptags
Mister Wong
Mixx
FINALIZE
Multiply
Newsvine
Plaxo
Propeller
Reddit
FINALIZE
Simpy
Slashdot
FINALIZE
Technorati
FINALIZE
Tumblr
Twitter
Yahoo Bookmarks

…All this on auto pilot each time you submit a new post!

The PR coming in to a single post from these sites adds up and of course gets distributed to your domain.

2. Next you need to automate the backlinks

To trigger onlywire’s magic, you need lots of new posts created daily. This is where The WordPress Cloaker Suite of tools steps up to lend a hand.

These tools will easily allow you to setup a handful of sites all posting 1-5 new posts per day on auto-pilot, just the way you want it. With the help of the Onlywire WordPress plugin, each of those posts will be automatically submitted to all of the above sites and generate tons of backlinks for you.

You now have backlink building totally hand free that willl help your PR increase dramatically over time with nearly zero effort.

Finally, WordPress Cloaker comes into the picture allowing us to redirect visitors anywhere we want. We want our visitors to see a perfectly orchestrated landing page, not a bunch of blog posts that aren’t going to convert or directly make us any money.

But, yes, all in all, a very automated way of handling backlink building.

Google XML Sitemaps – An essential tool in any blogger’s armory of SEO tools. While the name only mentions Google this plugin creates an XML-sitemap that can be read by Ask, MSN and Yahoo also.

HeadSpace2 – This plugin allows you to install all sorts of meta-data, add specific JavaScript and CSS to pages, suggests tags for your posts and a whole lot more.

Nofollow Case by Case – This plugin allows you to strip the “nofollow” command from your comments, and then you can apply it to only the comments you don’t wish to support.

Platinum SEO Plugin – The Platinum SEO Plugin offers you such features as automatic 301 redirects for permalink changes, auto-generation of META tags, post slug optimization, help in avoiding duplicate content and a host of other features.

Redirection – For any number of reasons you sometimes need to move a page from one spot on your blog to another, but then you risk losing that page’s status in search results. Redirection helps you with your 301 redirects, captures a log of 404s so you can work on correcting them, sets up an RSS feed for errors and more.

SEO Blogroll – Do you worry that the people you link to in your blogroll are feeding off of your PageRank? With SEO Blogroll you can make separate sections for various groupings of links, with an unlimited number in each, and all of them will receive the “nofollow” attribute.

SEO for Paged Comments – With the introduction of paged comments in WordPress 2.7, there was a potential problem with search engines thinking you had duplicate content as the post would appear on each page. This plugin aims to take care of this issue for you until the folks at WordPress change things up.

SEO friendly and HTML valid subheadings – Some themes for WordPress will confuse your sub-header tags based on the page they are to be displayed on, but this plugin will automatically reset them to make them more SEO friendly by moving them down one spot in the hierarchical tree. In other words, h2 becomes h3, h3 becomes h4 and so on.

SEO Friendly Images – Images can be a great source of traffic as people search for images of various subjects, and this plugin helps you with making sure that you have “alt” and “title” tags on all of your images so that the search engines can properly index them.

SEO No Duplicate WordPress Plugin – If you must have duplicate content on your site for whatever reason, SEO No Duplicate will allow you to state which version of the post search engines should index while ignoring the others.

SEO Post Link – The post slug is the blog title you see in a browser’s URL bar, and if it’s too long, search engines won’t take a liking to it. SEO Post Link comes with an already populated list of words to cut from a title when it turns into a URL to make your post addresses that much friendlier. You can set it so that it’s limited to a certain number of characters, cut short words, cut unnecessary words and more.

SEO Smart Links – Interlinking your blog can be the key to getting more people to read more of your posts, but it is time consuming and tedious to do it by hand. SEO Smart Links does this for you automatically when you tell it what words to link to what URLs, and it also allows you to set “nofollow” and “open in window” comands for the links.

SEO Tag Cloud Widget – Love ‘em or hate ‘em, a lot of people use tag clouds on their blogs. Since their inception they have been fairly unreadable by search engines, but with this plugin they will be converted to an SEO-friendly HTML markup that can be indexed.

SEO Title Tag – Your tags are an important part of your site for making sure that search engines know where to place your posts, and SEO Title Tag focuses exclusively on this. Unlike some other plugins, and WordPress itself, this extension will allow you to add tags to your pages, your main page and even any URL anywhere on your site.

Simple Tags – An extremely popular plugin that focuses on helping you choose the best tags for your posts by offering suggestions, auto-completion of tags as you type, an AJAX admin interface, mass tag editing and a whole lot more.

Sitemap Generator – This is a more customizable sitemap generator than most with options to support multi-level categories and pages, category/page exclusion, permalink support, choices on what to display, options to show number of comments and more.

TGFI.net SEO WordPress Plugin – This particular plugin will do most of the usual SEO work of optimizing titles and keywords, but it adds a unique twist as it is mainly directed at people who use WordPress as a CMS.
